Family Legacy
Preface
Rooted in over five thousand years of Chinese civilization, family lineage and ancestral memory have been passed down through generations.
Here, however, I begin with my great-grandparents. Their lives and endeavors were deeply intertwined with modern Chinese history, and they laid the foundation for my family’s enduring legacy in education, faith, devotion, and art.
My Great-grandparents
My great-grandfather was a Christian pastor and the founder of one of the first English schools in Guangzhou. Through education, he opened pathways to knowledge and global horizons for the youth of Southern China.
My Grandparents
My grandfather was a revolutionary martyr, a graduate of the Whampoa Military Academy and a naval mechanical engineer. Before the War of Resistance, he went to Chongqing with a patriotic resolve and later served as chief engineer of the Chongqing Iron & Steel Works. In 1949, during the defense of the plant, he laid down his life with courage, dedicating it to the newborn Republic.
My grandmother, born into a distinguished scholarly family, was a refined lady of grace. As a law graduate of the National Central University, she embodied learning and pioneering independence for women of her era.
My maternal grandfather was a Red Army veteran from Sichuan who joined at the age of only eleven. He marched the Long March, crossing snowy mountains and marshlands under fire, carrying the pure devotion of a child soldier through a lifetime of service. After 1949, he became a founding figure of the Chengdu Aircraft Manufacturing Plant, dedicating his life to China’s aviation industry.
My maternal grandmother was a Red Army fighter from Northern Shaanxi. In the harshest years, she endured war and hardship with courage and resilience, dedicating her youth to the cause of national liberation. She thus became a symbol of perseverance and devotion within our family legacy.
My Parents
My father is a renowned Chinese landscape oil painter, who captured the majestic scenery and poetic beauty of his homeland in Western Sichuan.
My mother, a vocalist and music teacher, nurtured countless souls with her voice and teaching.
Myself
I grew up within this heritage—rooted in education and faith, shaped by responsibility and devotion. Today, I am devoted to fostering dialogue between East and West, weaving philosophy, culture, and life practice as a continuation of my family’s legacy.
Spiritual Legacy
Faith and knowledge, art and responsibility, devotion and sacrifice—these are not only the virtues of my family, but also the living spirit of the Chinese people throughout history.
Our legacy is not measured by material wealth, but by the inner integrity and quiet nobility we carry within.
